Proteon Therapeutics, LLC research labs to locate in the Biotechnology Development Center of Greater Kansas City. June 22, 2004 Kansas City, MO - Proteon Therapeutics, LLC, took another step in its effort to enter clinical trials and ultimately received approval for its permanent vasodilation pharmaceutical by becoming a tenant of the Kansas City Biotechnology Development Center (KCBDC), an incubator owned and operated by the University of Kansas Medical Center. This was a natural fit and a win for both organizations, says Dr. F. Nicholas Franano, MD/MA and CEO of Proteon Therapeutics. Proteon will be located in close proximity to scientists and facilities with whom we have developed a good collaborative relationship. Additionally, the KCBDC is flexible enough to accommodate our growth. Much of the Proteon s past research has been performed in collaboration with the KU Medical Center. That approach will continue, as Proteon and KUMC have been jointly awarded a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Thomas Noffsinger, Vice Chancellor for Research Administration at Kansas University School of Medicine notes, "We are pleased that Proteon will be joining us. They are working with some exciting technology that holds great promise in a number of therapeutic areas. Their success will be an essential piece of the growing biotechnology movement at the University of Kansas and in the Kansas City area." Proteon relocated its research labs to KCBDC in June. The biotechnology incubator is located at 3800 Cambridge Street in Kansas City, KS and includes 6,000 sq. ft. of wet lab and office space. Proteon will maintain its administrative offices in Kansas City, MO.
